Professor Bai Zhong-Zhi is a Chinese mathematician, born in 1965, is a world-famous scientist. He is currently a professor at the State Key Laboratory of Scientific/Engineering Computing, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Scientific/Engineering Computing, Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Science.
Scientific research of prof. Z.-Z. Bai includes numerical algebra, numerical optimization, parallel computing, and numerical solution of partial differential equations. One of the main areas of research is the development of effective sequential and parallel numerical methods for solving large sparse systems of linear and nonlinear algebraic equations, the creation of methods convergence theory.
Prof. Bai has published over 200 scientific articles in international academic journals, including Mathematics of Computation, Numerische Mathematik, Parallel Computing, SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing and others. He has been ranked among the top five Chinese researchers in the previous three years, as well as in the Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science list of highly cited researchers for 2016, 2017 and 2018. Prof. Bai has a Hirsch index of 40. In particular, the iterative HSS-methods created in 2003 co-authored Professor Gene H. Golub, Academician of the American Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Engineering and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, our University's Honorary Doctorate have been recognized as significant contributions to matrix computing, and one of the most important developments in the field of iterative methods in the last 20 years.
Prof. Z.-Z. Bai cooperates with the Southern Federal University more than 10 years. Since 2012, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Southern Federal University have been holding joint scientific conferences on numerical algebra and applications (The China-Russia Conference on Numerical Algebra with Applications (CRCNAA)), alternately in Russia and China. Leading mathematicians and young scientists from both countries take part in the conferences. For a number of years, these conferences were co-chaired by prof. Z.-Z. Bai and prof. L.A. Krukier.
In June 2019, based on the I.I. Vorovich Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science Institute, hosted the eighth conference CRCNAA’2019.
In addition, research teams from Russia (SFU) and China have carried out several joint scientific projects on numerical algebra and computations, supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the State Natural Science Foundation of China.
In 2019, RFBR and GFEN supported another joint scientific project of researchers from the Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science and scientists of the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Scientific and Engineering Computing (Chinese Academy of Sciences). The head of the Chinese group is prof. Bai. The head of the Russian scientific team is prof. Muratova.
The high scientific level of prof. Z.-Z. Bai, his international recognition, many years of experience in cooperation with scientists from SFedU, his significant contribution to the development of scientific contacts and obtaining significant results allowed Professor Z.-Z. Bai in 2019 obtain the title of Honorary Doctor of Southern Federal University.
The laboratory will integrate advanced research teams working in the fields of applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, computer science and mechanics.
